More bikes and e-scooters in our cities: the need for security

As we move towards greener living and look for alternative ways to get around, the use of bikes and e-scooters, whether electric or not, keeps growing in our cities. On top of this rise in popularity, the cost of these vehicles is also going up, which makes the need for security and storage solutions even more crucial.

A marked rise in bikes and e-scooters in the city, and in their cost

Statistics show a significant increase in the use of bikes and e-scooters in cities. In Lyon, France, for example, nearly 38 million bike trips were recorded in 2021, an increase of 8 million compared with the previous year. This trend can be seen in many cities around the world and reflects a major shift in the way we get around.

However, these vehicles aren’t cheap. Buying a bike or an e-scooter, especially an electric one, is a considerable investment. As a result, protecting these vehicles against theft and damage becomes a major concern for their owners.

The challenges of security and storage

The growing popularity of two-wheelers and their rising cost raise security and storage issues. Theft and vandalism are common problems, and users are often looking for ways to store their vehicle safely when they’re not using it. What’s more, leaving a bike or an e-scooter unattended in the street can quickly become a source of stress.

SafeKeeper: an innovative solution

This is where SafeKeeper comes in, an innovative mobile app designed for owners of e-scooters, bikes (electric or not) and electric unicycles. SafeKeeper connects vehicle owners, called Travelers, with keepers, or Keepers, who look after the vehicles in their home, garage or premises.

The app is simple to use: Travelers use the app to find Keepers near them. A notification system lets Travelers contact Keepers, who can accept or decline the request. Prices, set by SafeKeeper, vary depending on the charging option.

Security and transparency

SafeKeeper puts the emphasis on security and transparency. Keepers go through a rigorous verification process, including personal information, a copy of their ID card or passport, proof of address and proof of ownership or rental of the storage space.
